Police arrest Merced Man on weapon and Meth Charges

On November 29th, 2018, at approximately 7:09 A.M. Officers Salyers and Arias were dispatched to a suspicious person asleep inside a vehicle. When they arrived they found 26-year-old Roberto Garcia asleep inside a black Ford Mustang.

As they spoke with Garcia they learned he had a warrant for his arrest issued by the Merced County Superior Court. Garcia was arrested for the warrant.

When Garcia was placed under arrest he told the officers that he had a handgun on his person. During a search, a loaded .45 caliber handgun was recovered from Garcia’s waistband. When the handgun was checked it was learned that it had been recently stolen during a burglary that the Merced County Sheriff’s Department is investigating.

A search of Garcia’s vehicle was conducted. Officers found approximately 20 grams of methamphetamine along with scales and other items to indicate sales.

Garcia was arrested and booked for possession of a loaded firearm and controlled substance, possession of a stolen firearm, possession for sales of a controlled substance, and gang enhancements.
