Police are investigating a shooting outside Bernie’s Liquor in Merced, one victim found

Merced police are investigating a shooting outside Bernie’s liquor.

Officers responded to reports of shots fired on East 23rd Street at around 11:30 p.m, when officers were responding they were updated by dispatch to Bernies Liquor for a gunshot victim.

Officers arrived and located a gunshot victim that was hit on his leg and a fight was taking place outside the store according to police radio traffic.

The shooter was seen leaving the area in a vehicle, the victim was taken to an unknown hospital, he’s 25-years-old and his identity remains unknown.

Police later spotted the driver and the vehicle in the 1100 block of West 25th Street and arrested 31-year-old Jose Lopez for being the alleged shooter.

Jose was booked into the Merced County jail on attempted murder charges, felon in possession of a firearm, felon prohibited from possessing firearms, shooting at an inhabited, dwelling building, occupied vehicle, and being in an active street gang.
