Merced Police Officers were dispatched to a residential area in South Merced to investigate gunshots reported to be heard in the 1100 Block of West 12th Street at around 4:31 p.m. today.
Responding officers were later notified by police dispatchers that a 26-year-old male gunshot victim was at Mercy Hospital with a gunshot wound to his right leg.
Police officers responded to the hospital and West 12th Street to conduct their investigation of the reported incidents. Subsequently, officers determined that the call on West 12th Street was related to the gunshot victim at the hospital. There is only one reported victim to the shooting on 12th Street. Police describe the suspect only as a late teen, no further information released.
Merced Police Detectives were called out to investigate the shooting incident, contacting witnesses and collecting evidence at the crime scene.
