Merced police officers are currently investigating a fatality after a person was hit by a train.

Officers responded to the area of West 24th and P Streets at approximately 2:40 Saturday afternoon.

When officers arrived, they located the individual deceased.

Neighbors in the area say a young boy was hit by the train, at this time police have not released any information.

The Merced Police Department continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding this accident. No further information was immediately available.
