On June 8, 2020, at approximately 8:37 p.m., Merced police officers were called to a vacant residence in the 200 block of West 21st Street for a report of subjects inside a vacant home.
Officer Elliott arrived and contacted 38-year-old David Chavez inside the residence without the permission of the owner.
Officer Elliott found numerous stolen items in Chavez’s possession. Items recovered included four United States government stimulus checks, approximately 50 checks from various people, some of them had already been altered.
Officers also located sixty-eight mailbox keys, along with over forty additional keys to what appeared to be residences. Chavez was also in possession of two car keys, which looked to belong to an auto sales company. Many of the recovered items were tied to three burglaries over the past few months.
Chavez was arrested for trespassing, and for being in possession of the stolen property.
