Man arrested on charges of robbery an assault with deadly weapon, police say

Merced Police officers arrested 31-year-old Francisco Zagal for assault with a deadly weapon and robbery.

Officers responded to the Buy & Bye Market at around 5:45 Saturday afternoon for reports of a knife assault.

Authorities say, the victim was attacked by two males after he exited the store and returned to his vehicle. One of the attackers used a knife and cut the victim on his hand.

Police say the suspects stole the victim’s truck keys after the assault.

Officers reviewed surveillance footage from the liquor store and identified Zagal as one of the attackers.

Zagal was located a few hours later and arrested. He was booked into custody at the Merced County Jail for assault with a deadly weapon and robbery.

This case is still under investigation and the second suspect is at large.
