Hazmat situation reported in Atwater at busy Intersection

The Merced County Fire Department Hazardous Materials Team assisted today the Atwater City Fire Department with a Hazmat call near Bellevue and Constitution.

A 15-gallon drum labeled “corrosive” was left on the sidewalk and called in by a passerby according to a recent press release from the fire department.

The call for assistance came in around 12:30 p.m. and took less than 1 hour to retrieve a sample and identify the product as Sodium Hypochlorite Solution.

No injuries to civilians or Fire Department personnel were reported.
