Atwater Police officers arrested a man on domestic charges today.

Officers responded to the 3000 block of Manchester Road At approximately 1:00 PM for reports of a physical domestic fight.

According to the Atwater Police Department, the victim was able to drive away from the residence and met with officers at another location. Officers spoke to the victim and discovered that her estranged husband had assaulted her during child visitation.

During the interview, the victim disclosed that the suspect, 30-year-old Ruben Robles, was in possession of at least one AR-15 Assault Rifle.

Officers were able to contact Robles by phone and convince him to walk out and surrender to officers.

Robles was placed under arrest on domestic violence charges. According to the Atwater Police Department, Robles volunteered the location of his legally possessed handguns and the illegally manufactured AR-15.

In addition to the assault rifle, officers located enough unmarked parts to assemble at least one more rifle along with several high capacity magazines.

Robles was transported and booked into the Merced County Sheriffs Main Jail on charges of domestic battery, and weapons charges.
