Two Alarm fire reported at Merced Recycling Center last night

A fire is under investigation at A&S recycling Center in Merced.

Merced City Firefighters responded to reports of a vegetation fire near Olive Avenue and State Highway 59 at approximately 11:30 p.m. Saturday night.

Just before fire units arrived in the area, dispatch advised the fire was at the recycling center located at 2901 State Highway 59 in Merced.

Upon arrival, firefighters noticed a heavy fire involvement underneath a metal structure located in the Northside of the Recycling Center, Merced Fire Battalion Chief Brunelli said.

Due to the fire, the detached metal building, and machinery received significant damage along with pallets of cardboard and pallets of old electronic devices.

Four Merced City Fire engines, one ladder truck, and one Battalion Chief were on scene.

Due to several City fire engines at the fire, Merced County firefighters responded to any calls in the City. Merced Police was at the scene to provide traffic control.

According to Battalion Chief Brunelli, it took over two hours to extinguish the fire and about another two hours to Mop up.
