CHP investigating collision on Santa Fe, man arrested for driving impaired

The Merced California Patrol responded the area of West Santa Fe Avenue and East Bellevue road at approximately 11:17 p.m. on October 25th, 2019, for a motor vehicle accident.

Victor Medina Jr. was driving a 2003 Volkswagen Beetle west on Santa Fe Drive approaching East Bellevue Road when Andrew Vallejo was driving a 2016 Honda Civic east on East Bellevue Road approaching Santa Fe Drive.

Mr. Vallejo turned his vehicle to the right in an attempt to transition to east Santa Fe Drive, but due to his impairment, he took the turn too wide to where he was travelling east on Santa Fe Drive within the number one lane of westbound Santa Fe Drive. Mr. Medina was unable to avoid Mr. Vallejo as the front of the Honda struck the front of the Volkswagen according to public information officer Zuniga.

Vallejo was subsequently arrested for driving under the influence of an alcoholic beverage and subsequently transported to Merced Mercy Hospital for a laceration on his head.

Medina had a complaint of pain but declined any medical treatment on scene.
