3-year-old flown to hospital after Planada man suspected of DUI hits vehicle

A 26-year-old Planada man faces DUI felony charges after a crash that left a 3-year-old boy in a hospital.

The crash occurred at 8:39 Saturday night on
Southbound Golden State Boulevard, Just north of Griffith Road, CHP said.

Authorities say 26-year-old Andres Castaneda from Planada was driving a black Honda Accord Southbound on Golden State Boulevard at a high rate of speed when he failed to slow down and struck the rear of a 2007 silver Chevrolet Silverado.

CHP says the driver of the truck, front passenger and a 1-year-old girl received minor injuries and said they will seek their own aid. A 3-year-old boy sustained facial lacerations and head injuries, he was flown to Madera Children’s Hospital and is expected to recover. Both children were properly restrained CHP said.

Castaneda sustained major injuries and was flown to Memorial Medical Center in Modesto.

Castaneda was suspected to be under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol.

Due to his severe injuries, Castaneda was released to the care of Memorial Medical Center, CHP public information officer Zuniga told Merced Golden Wire News.

Charges of felony DUI will be filed, the collision remains under investigation.
