TWO-YEAR-OLD DROWNS IN ATWATER POOL

On today’s date just before 1:00 PM, Atwater Police were dispatched to a residence in the 300 block of Della Drive to a report of a two-year-old child who had fallen in a pool and who was not breathing. APD patrol officers were the first to arrive on-scene and were directed to a juvenile male lying on the living room floor.

Officers immediately began CPR on the child and continued doing so until Cal-Fire and Riggs Ambulance arrived shortly thereafter. The child was transported to the hospital where he was later pronounced deceased. We are not releasing the names of the child or family members out of respect for the family’s privacy during this unfortunate time.

Please keep in mind that as the weather warms up during these next several months, swimming pool use will undoubtedly increase. Pool safety should be on the minds of all of us, especially if you have small children.

Pool fencing requirements vary from state to state and it is recommended that all pool owners be aware of California pool fencing laws for all pools and/or spas erected or remodeled after 2007.
