Two arrested after assault at Food Maxx causing over $1,000 in damage

Merced Police Officers responded at around 8:40 p.m., to Food Maxx located at 1300 West Olive Avenue for multiple subjects fighting in the store and reports of shots fired.

Police say 19-year-old Armando Ortiz and 21-year-old Matthew Tijerina along with two other unknown suspects waited outside the store for the victim to exit.

The four suspects began assaulting the victim and the assault ended up back inside the store.

Authorities say over $1,000.00 worth of damage was done to Food Maxx property from the assault.

The victim was gone when officers arrived but was later located at a local hospital.

Police say the victim was somewhat uncooperative with the investigation in providing information on the suspects.

The investigation revealed there were no shots fired during the altercation. Both Tijerina and Ortiz were booked at the jail.
