Possible vehicle involved in death of 23-year-old Merced woman, CHP says

CHP says they have discovered information regarding the pedestrian collision on July 22nd, 2021 in Merced.

Officers responded to Northbound 99 at the East 16th Street off-ramp at around 5:45 am, for a report of an adult female lying in the roadway.

Upon arriving to the scene, officers located 23-year-old Lydia Arroyo lying in the roadway with major injuries, officers determined she had been involved in a vehicle versus pedestrian collision.

The initial investigation indicates the female pedestrian was walking in the roadway at the East 16th Street off-ramp from Northbound State Route 99 outside of a designated crosswalk.

Following the collision, the involved vehicle did not stop at the scene. Due to the poor lighting in the area and the pedestrian’s slight stature, it is possible the driver was unaware they had collided with a pedestrian.

Information discovered during
the investigation suggests the vehicle to possibly be a 2020 or 2021 Ford F250 or F350 pick-up truck and may have minor front-end damage.

Arroyo was flown to a Modesto hospital with major injuries where she later died.

If anyone has information regarding this collision please call the CHP Merced Area Office at (209) 356-6600 or after hours at (209) 356-2900.
