Police investigate after a bicyclist was hit in Merced by a driver who left scene, he was flown with major injuries

Merced police are investigating a hit and run after a bicyclist was hit Monday night.

Officers responded to a report of a vehicle versus a pedestrian at around 7:30 p.m., in the 1600 block of G Street.

When officers arrived they located a white male adult in the roadway being treated by RIGGS ambulance according to authorities.

Witnesses at the scene told officers the vehicle struck the cyclists and fled the scene. The vehicle was described as possibly a blue/green Toyota minivan last seen Southbound on G Street.

The cyclist suffered major injuries and was flown to an area hospital for treatment. Police say it is not yet known if alcohol was a factor in the collision.

The Merced Police traffic unit is actively investigating this incident and is requesting any information to be forwarded to Officer McKinnon.
