Police arrest man who fled scene of Motorcycle collision

Merced police have arrested a man who they say is responsible for a felony hit and run collision.

Officers responded to the 2000 block of Yosemite Parkway at around 2:00 Thursday afternoon for reports of a vehicle versus a motorcyclist.

When officers arrived, they located a motorcycle and male adult in the roadway being treated by Fire rescue personnel.

According to witnesses and fire personnel on scene, the vehicle which struck the cyclists fled the scene east on Highway 140.

Officer Crain was able to get a description and partial plate for the vehicle and attempted to locate it.

Due to his quick action and response, Officer Crain was able to locate the vehicle and driver in the area of Highway 140 and Dale Avenue.

The driver identified as 23-year-old Joseph Alexander admitted to being involved in the collision and leaving the scene.

The motorcyclist suffered major injuries and was flown to an area hospital for treatment.

It remains unknown if Alcohol or drugs was a factor in the collision.
