Police arrest man after he stabbed his parents multiple times

Los Banos police say they have arrested a man after he stabbed his parents multiple times on Saturday Morning.

Officers responded to the 2000 block of Genoa Court for reports of a stabbing at approximately 11:02, the Los Banos Police Department said.

While officers were responding, one of the victims reported their adult son had stabbed both him and his wife, and the suspect was still inside of the home.

Officers Tyler Wilson, Brock DeWitt, Juan Ramos, and Jack Hostetler arrived and forced entry into the residence after hearing the male victim calling for help.

Once officers were inside, they encountered the suspect, 36-year-old Lawrence Smith Jr., armed with a large knife, standing in the hallway.

The suspect was non-compliant and would not follow the officer’s orders to drop the knife. As the suspect approached the officer, he was shot with a Taser device and the officers were able to safely take him into custody.

The male victim was located inside of the home suffering from several stab wounds to his lower body and the female victim was located in a bedroom suffering from several major stab wounds to her upper body.

Both victims were airlifted to a Modesto area hospital for their injuries. The male victim was released from the hospital later in the day and the female victim remains hospitalized in stable condition.

Smith was booked into the Los Banos Police Department Jail charged with attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon. None of the officers involved were injured during the incident.
