Police Arrest 15-year-old for Armed Robbery and Carjacking in Merced

Police have arrested a 15-year-old teen for robbery and carjacking.

Officers responded to the 800 block of West 23rd Street at around 4:00 p.m. Thursday, for a report of a robbery.

The victim stated that two Hispanic male juveniles approached his vehicle, brandished a handgun, and demanded his property and the vehicle. the victim turned over the property and was not injured.

Several hours later officers were sent to a reported vehicle collision at the intersection of west 19th and I Street in Merced.

A witness to the collision reported two males running from a vehicle and supplied a license plate that matched the carjacked vehicle.

Officers responding to the collision located one of the two males running in the area and were able to take him into custody.

That suspect was in possession of a loaded firearm at the time of his arrest and matched the description of one of the original carjacking suspects. The victim was also able to positively identify him as one of the people who had robbed him.

The suspect was a 15-year-old juvenile male from Merced. He was cleared at the hospital for minor injuries sustained in the collision and later booked at the Iris Garret Juvenile Justice Center.

He was booked for carjacking, robbery, committing the crime for the benefit of a criminal street gang, and multiple firearm related offenses.
