Modesto New Homeless Tents destroyed in an early morning fire today

Modesto fire responded just after 3:00 a.m. this morning to a fire call.

Modesto, Stanislaus Consolidated, Ceres, and the Stanislaus Fire Investigations Unit responded to 600 Morton Blvd for multiple tents on fire within the Modesto Outside Emergency Shelter, MOES.

Crews arrived to find multiple tents on fire with shelter occupants starting to evacuate through the front gate.

Fire crews quickly made access, stopped the forward spread of the fire, and then worked with Stanislaus Fire Investigations Unit to secure the area.

Five tents burned, three were a total loss. Two occupants were displaced by the fire. Staff from Turning Point, the contract management organization, was on site assisting the displaced occupants and working with fire investigators.

No injuries were reported, the cause and origin of the fire remains under investigation.
