Merced Police Department is investigating a shooting near downtown Merced.

Officers responded to the 200- block alleyway of West 18th Street at approximately 1:06 a.m. for reports of shots fired.

Upon officer’s arrival, a 37-year-old male victim was located with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police say the man was awoken to glass breaking in the alley. When the victim went to make sure that his property was not being damaged, two subjects confronted him. At least one of the suspects who confronted the victim fired multiple rounds, striking the victim once.

The victim was transported to a Modesto hospital.
