Merced police arrest woman with knife who chased man near downtown

Merced Police say a woman with a knife was arrested after she chased a man down a street.

Officers responded to the 100 block of West Main Street after receiving several calls of a woman with a knife chasing a man.

When officers arrived, they located the victim in the area of H and West Main Streets. While officers were speaking with the victim, officers noticed a vacant apartment building at 1724 H Street with smoke coming out of the windows and roof.

Officers went to the building to conduct a safety check and located 41-year-old Amanda Collins standing in the doorway. Collins was taken into custody and admitted to starting the fire.

Collins was also identified by the victim as the suspect chasing him with the knife. City of Merced Fire Department arrived on scene and extinguished the fire.

Collins was transported to the Merced County Jail where she was booked for terrorist threats, arson, brandishing a weapon, and trespassing.
