Merced Girl Scout Troop hosted a booth event, to build new library after someone burnt down their previous one

On January 11th, 2019, Girl Scout Troop 3022 Little Free Library Got burned down at Rudolph Joseph Merino Park in Merced, known as El Redondo Park. Till today they haven’t been able to find a suspect.

Troop 3022 hosted a booth event on February 23, 2019, from 11a.m.-1p.m. to collect donations to rebuild a new little free Library for the community. During the event, they sold cookies, had activities for kids and provided light refreshments for everyone.

The Troop is greatly Appreciative for all the generous donations that were given. Troop 3022 has three leaders Lori, Misty and Kristen. They started the Troop in 2014 with 16 girls all who were daisies at the time. Now the troop
has grown, they now have brownies and juniors aging from 6 to 10-years-old.

Every year, after Cookies season is over the girls get asked: “What they would like to do with their cookie money?” All the girls
say they want to give back to the community, go on adventurous trips and camping. They give back to the community by making care packages for the homeless, and volunteer their time at the Ronald McDonald house at the Children’s Hospital and make meals for families that stay there.

With all the donations raised the Troop said they want to build several Little Library’s know as “Take a book leave a book” throughout the City of Merced.

The Troop is asking for the person responsible of burning down their Little Library to come forward and apologize.

The troop would like to give a big thank you to the Community for all the donations and to the collaboration of Literacy for All / Unknown as/ Walsh, Cassady, & Walsh. The father of Jeremy Martinez, the director of United Way for building a Little Free Library and donating it to our Troop.
