The City of Merced Fire Department responded to the San Joaquín Motel located at 1439 West 16th Street for reports of smoke seen in the area.

Firefighters responded to the area Monday Night at approximately 8:00 p.m.

Upon arrival, firefighters located a fire inside one of the units at the motel. Firefighters were able to contain the fire quickly.

One unit was fully damaged, two other units received minor damage to the attic according to Battalion Chief Franklin.

At this time it appears only one unit was damaged, no injuries are being reported.

Merced Police responded to the area for traffic control.
