Man Dies After Competing in Food Eating Contest at the Grizzlies

The Fresno Grizzlies held a taco eating contest during its game Tuesday night.

One of the participants, 41-year-old Dana Hutchings of Fresno, began to choke while eating tacos.

Members of the Grizzlies medical staff immediately began to give him first aid. He was then turned over to American Ambulance who transported him to nearby Community Regional Medical Center.

Hutchings arrived to the emergency room at 7:57 pm. Medical staff began pulling out food to clear his airway, however, at 8:24 pm he passed away.

The Fresno County Sheriff’s Office was notified of his death Tuesday night and they transported Hutchings body to the Coroner’s Office for an autopsy that will be performed on Thursday.

At this time there is no cause of death, it could take some time to determine.

The coroner’s office will review Hutchings’ medical records and run toxicology tests, which is standard procedure in all cases.
