Man arrested for attempted murder of an 80-year-old man

Mercer Police arrested a man for attempted murder.

On October 7th, 2020, at around 2:02 a.m., Merced Police Department Officers responded to the 1500 block of Buckingham Court for a report of an assault.

Upon arrival, Officers met with a 80-year-old victim who reported he was assaulted by Brandon Sargent. The victim reported 26-year-old Brandon Sargent punched him with a closed fist and kicked him several times.

The victim had visible injuries and fell to the ground while being assaulted. The victim reported Sargent put a cord around his neck and attempted to strangle him.

Sargent also made threats to return and burn the house down. Merced Police Officers located and arrested Brandon Sargent on October 8th, 2020.

Sargent admitted he was upset with the victim and intended to kill the victim. Sargent was arrested for attempted murder, elder abuse, and criminal threats.
