Man arrested for attempted Murder, after a short chase with Merced Police

On May 8th, 2020, at approximately 12:21 a.m., Officers were dispatched to a call of a fight inside of a residence with gunshots being fired.

As they arrived at the residence they noticed a grey pickup backing out of the driveway and received an update that the subject firing the gun was leaving in a grey truck.

Officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle.

The driver of the vehicle sped off and a short vehicle pursuit ensued. The pursuit ended when the suspect returned back around to the residence and attempted to run back inside the house, officers had Silva at gunpoint in the front yard of the residence.

John Michael Silva, 49-years-old, was taken into custody, Silva was found to be in possession of a stolen handgun and was extremely intoxicated.

Through the investigation, officers learned that Silva had been involved in an argument with his daughter in law. During the argument he pulled out a handgun, aimed it at the female, and fired a shot. The shot missed his intended victim who fled and called police.

Silva was booked into the Merced County Jail for charges of attempted homicide, felony child endangerment, felon in possession of a handgun, felon in possession of ammunition, possession of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance with a loaded firearm, criminal threats, felony evading, and driving under the influence.
