Man allegedly responsible for shooting that left Merced man dead in Modesto on Sunday was arrested

The Modesto Police Department’s Violent Crime Unit Detectives say they have arrested a man allegedly responsible for a shooting that left a Merced man dead and injured a second individual on Sunday morning.

Officers responded to the area of Coffee Road and East Orangeburg Avnue for reports of a person shot just after 2:00 a.m, as Officers arrived on scene, they located an adult male near the intersection suffering from at least one gunshot wound, he died at the scene police said.

When officers had just arrived at the scene, they could hear screaming coming from a neighboring street, and simultaneously dispatch began receiving reports of a fight and the sounds of shots heard from the area of East Coolidge Avenue and Water Street.

Officers responded to the area, and located another adult male suffering from at least one gunshot wound.

Detectives later in the afternoon identified and arrested 21-year-old Jon McDonald III of Modesto. Detectives also recovered a handgun during the investigation, which was believed to be used during the homicide.

The man killed has been identified as 23-year-old Clive Wilsonstewart from Merced, police have not released a name on the second victim and no other information will be released at this time.
