A man who allegedly shot and killed a person in Modesto this morning was arrested near Livingston on Highway 99.

According to Modesto Police, officers responded to a shooting in the 1700 block of Ontario Avenue at approximately 8:30 am. today.

Officers located an adult male in the roadway with gunshot wounds and was transported to a local hospital and died.

A description of the suspect vehicle was provided to officers and was spotted leaving the area. Officers with Modesto Police and partnering agencies followed the vehicle to Merced County where the driver was taken into custody near Livingston.

All lanes of Southbound and Northbound Highway 99 were affected due to a large presence of police vehicles.
