Authorities are investigating after a body was found at a Merced Highway 99 off-ramp Wednesday night.
The body was found on the V Street exit shoulder of Southbound Highway 99 in Merced at around 8:15, according to the California Highway Patrol.
CHP says the body was discovered by a pedestrian walking on the off-ramp. Merced police were the first to respond to the scene but since it was under CHP jurisdiction, the California Highway Patrol took over the investigation.
The pedestrian discovered the body in an area with a lot of vegetation and went to a nearby gas station to call 911 when he didn’t get a response from the individual.
A CHP officer on scene said the body appeared to be a male and had been there for a few days due to the body being very decomposed.
Authorities had a team respond to the area to get some photos of the scene. At this time it appears there is no foul play according to the California Highway Patrol.
No other information was immediately available from CHP, stay tuned if any other details become available.
