CHP FOUND THIS AND MORE, DURING VEHICLE STOP

On April 17, at approximately 2:13am CHP Merced Officers made an enforcement stop on a 2002 Ford Explorer for violation of California Vehicle Code 5200(a) – No Front Plate. The stop was made on Shanks Road west of SR-99.

During the course of the contact it was discovered the solo occupant driver’s license was suspended and he had an outstanding felony warrant. The driver was instructed to exit the vehicle. Upon exiting the vehicle officers noticed a black handgun in the drivers sweatshirt. The handgun was removed and it was discovered the handgun was loaded with a high-capacity magazine.

 

The driver was identified as 28-year-old, Raymond Gonzalez of Delhi. Gonzalez was subsequently arrested. During the search of the vehicle, an additional handgun was located, approximately $980 in cash, several different types of cannabis items individually packaged for sale, and two digital scales. Gonzalez was transported and booked into the Merced County Jail without incident, and released the same day.
