The Atwater Police Department is investigating a shooting that sent one individual to a Modesto hospital.

Officers responded to the 2300 block of Atwater Boulevard on Wednesday night at around 10:05 p.m. for reports of a shooting.

The incident occurred after an unidentified man described to be driving a red 90’s body style Ford Mustang shot at two occupants of the victim’s vehicle.

The passenger of the victim vehicle was struck by gunfire and transported to a Modesto hospital for treatment.

The identity of both victims are not being released at this time.

According to authorities, the victims were said to have just left the Sonic Burger drive-in on Bellevue Road when they were provoked by an unruly driver of the Mustang who then followed the victims, positioned his vehicle behind them and shot into their vehicle striking the passenger.

The Atwater Police Department is asking for any information associated with the incident or information pertaining to a possible suspect lead.
