According to the Merced Police Department, In early November of 2019, MPD Detective Salyers began investigating several reports of mail theft that had been occurring in Merced.

Multiple victims reported that mail had been stolen from their homes, which led to their identities being stolen.

Victims reported unauthorized credit cards being opened in their names, as well as money being taken from their checking accounts.

Detective Salyers was able to identify suspects in the mail thefts as 34-year-old Rosalinda Garcia and 36-year-old Mark Fenton.

Garcia and Fenton were tied to an address in north Merced in the 1800 block of Cheyenne Drive.

On January 16, 2020, MPD Detectives served a search warrant at this residence. Detectives were able to take Fenton and Garcia into custody. In the residence, detectives located equipment used to make false checks. Additionally, detectives located over 80 credit cards, 100 checks, and vehicle registration paperwork; all of which was stolen or obtained illegally.

Fenton and Garcia were both booked into Merced County Jail on multiple theft related charges.
