A man driving a stolen flatbed Freightliner truck is in custody after leading officers on a chase that started in Fresno.

Authorities say the chase started in Fresno at around 9:45 a.m., in the area of West McKinley Avenue and Grantland Avenue by Fresno Police.

CHP took over the chase on Northbound 99 in Fresno and continued through Madera County ending it in Merced County after the driver lost control and went down the embankment at the Le Grand exit.

The flatbed truck was successfully spiked by CHP scale units, CHP public information officer Zuniga said.

The driver, 28-year-old Joaquin Carillo was taken into custody without incident and will be taken back to Fresno to be interviewed before he is booked into jail.
