Officers responded to the area of Vinewood Avenue just West of Robin Avenue at around 7:21 Tuesday morning, for reports of a truck who hit a bicyclist.

When officers arrived, they located a 14-year-old boy from Livingston with major injuries.

According to public information officer Zuniga, 45-year-old Lane Johnson out of Atwater was driving a 2-axle Ford F750, eastbound on Vinewood Avenue just west of Robin Avenue at 45 miles per hour.

Authorities say the boy was riding his bicycle near the fog-line of eastbound Vinewood Avenue, just west of Robin Avenue.

Johnson told authorities when he was driving up the hill in the roadway and the sun was directly in his eyes and he was unable to see the roadway ahead of him, he heard a “pop’ and seen dust, he pulled over to the shoulder and stopped to investigate, and realized he had hit a bicyclist.

The juvenile suffered major injuries but was non-life-threatening, CHP officer Zuniga said

The juvenile was airlifted to Valley Children’s Hospital for his injuries. Mr Johnson was cooperative with the investigation, no drugs and/or alcohol are suspected.
