Vehicles, homes, and two victims in their early 20’s hit by gunfire in Atwater

Two people were struck by gunfire in Atwater Friday night according to the Atwater Police Department.

On April 24th, 2020, officers from the Atwater Police Department responded to the 10000 block of Poppy Hills Drive at approximately 10:02 p.m. for reports of several shots fired in the area.

Officers arrived and located a group of individuals who were outside a home.

The group of individuals were uncooperative during the investigation, police said.

Two of the individuals were described by police to be in their early 20’s, one of the victims was only grazed by the gunfire, the other victim was hit in the leg and taken to an out of County hospital which appeared to be non-life threatening injuries, police said.

Several crime scene markers placed on vehicles, and areas hit by gunfire.

During the investigation, detectives learned that some homes and vehicles were also struck by gunfire, no further injuries were reported.

At this time there is no further information on the motive of the shooting or the description of the shooter(s) police said.
