The Turlock Police Department is investigating a shooting that left an off-duty Merced County Sheriff Deputy injured.

The shooting occurred on early Sunday morning at around 2:30 a.m., at the 100 block of South First street.

Upon officers arrival, they located the deputy who had sustained at least one gunshot wound at La Cantina, a local bar in Turlock.

The deputy was transported to a local hospital in critical but stable condition.

According to a security officer near a local business, “the shooter appeared to have opened fire at a group of people outside the establishment.

The shooter was seen leaving the area in a grey-colored BMW SUV according to witnesses.

No suspect information or deputies name was immediately available.

No other information is being released due to this being an active investigation.
