On Wednesday, February 7th,2017 A person was killed after being struck by a train at around 5:05PM In Atwater on the BNSF Railroad tracks between Shaffer road and Winton Way.

About an hour later Merced Police also responded to the area of V street and 16th street for a train vs pedestrian. Merced fire and Riggs searched the area under Bear Creek bridge by 16th street and highway 59 as of around 7:10PM crews did not find a body. No other information was immediately available.
