Two individuals hit and killed by train in Merced County identified

The Merced Sheriff’s coroner’s office has identified the two individuals who were hit and killed by a train in Merced County.

The two individuals were struck by the trains on the BNSF Railroad on Santa Fe Drive in less than a week.

On June 30th, 2020, at approximately 9:55 p.m., Deputies responded to the area of Santa Fe Drive and Walnut Avenue for a report of a train vs pedestrian, the coroner’s office identified this individual as 68-year-old Amador Joe Caldera from Winton.

The most recent train vs pedestrian occurred on July 4th, 2020, it happened in the area of Santa Fe Drive and Business Park Way just after 3:00 p.m., deputies responded to the area of a train vs pedestrian, upon arrival, deputies located an Amtrak train stopped, deputies also located 22-year-old Tucker Leavitt from Merced deceased.
