Authorities are investigating the first homicide of the year in the City of Atwater.

Officers responded to the 1400 block of East Bellevue Road for a report of a shooting Tuesday afternoon.

When officers arrived two subjects were located with gunshot wounds, one of the victims was transported to a Modesto hospital in critical condition and the other victim died at the scene.

Both victims are under the age of 18, Atwater Police Chief Michael Salvador told Merced GW News.

The shooting remains under investigation and no suspects have been arrested.
