On April 1st, 2020, at approximately 7:00 AM, the Atwater Police Department, Merced County Sheriff’s Office SWAT team, and the California Department of Justice served search warrants at two locations in the City of Atwater related to a March 22, 2020 suspicious death investigation where a female was found deceased in a car at Ralston Park.

After an autopsy, that death was ruled a homicide by the Coroner.

The search warrants were served in the 2200 Block of Eucalyptus Street and the 900 Block of Atwater Blvd in the City of Atwater.

Two subjects were taken into custody without incident. Both locations are being processed by the California Department of Justice Regional Crime Lab out of Ripon.

Subjects taken into custody are identified as:

1. Stanley Jay Young, DOB 11/4/64, a resident of Atwater
2. Sharon Colleen Kelly, DOB 6/24/63, also a resident of Atwater

Young was booked into the Merced County Jail on a warrant out San Mateo and 1 count of PC187 Murder. Kelly was also booked into the Merced County Jail on one count of being an Accessory to Commit Murder.

Atwater Police are also releasing the identity of the deceased as being Renee Osborne, 58 years old, a resident of Merced. This case will be submitted to the District Attorney’s office to file formal charges.

The Investigation is ongoing, and the Atwater Police Department continues to need the public’s help in gathering information related to this case.
