Police arrest man allegedly responsible for the shooting in North Merced

Authorities arrested a man in possession of firearms near the scene of a shooting in North Merced.

Officers responded to a report of a shooting in the 1300 block of Derby Drive at around 11:22 Thursday.

A reporting party told officers that a white BMW had left the area and had multiple bullet holes in the side of the vehicle.

As officers searched the area a victim walked into Mercy Hospital with multiple gunshot wounds. The 48-year-old male victim of Merced was not cooperative with officers and supplied little information.

Officers located the white BMW parked at the corner of Derby Drive and Alviso Drive. When they approached the vehicle two males were found walking away. Officers detained both males, 23-year-old Davonya Shepherd was found to be in possession of an AR15 style pistol and a loaded handgun.

Shepherd was arrested for illegal firearm possession and committing the crime for the benefit of a street gang. The other male was released without charges.

Detectives are currently investigating the shooting.
