Pedestrian struck by a vehicle on Highway 99 in Livingston

On November 19, 2018, at approximately 5:27 pm, the Merced Communications Center (MCC) broadcast a call of a pedestrian being struck by multiple vehicles. CHP Merced Units responded to the scene at approximately 5:31 p.m.

During the investigation, it was determined that a male adult 59-year-old, out of Merced was walking in the center divider of the SR-99 north of Winton Parkway. Mr. Ronnie Lynn Williams 59-year-old of Hanford was driving his 2018 Ford F-150 pickup truck southbound on SR-99 southbound, north of Winton Parkway, in the #2 lane at a stated speed of 65 miles per hour.

The collision occurred when, for unknown reasons, the male began to walk westbound and enter the #1 lane of SR-99 southbound. Mr. Williams saw the pedestrian walk out directly into the left front of his Ford but he was unable to avoid hitting him due to the close proximity.

Mr. Williams’ Ford F-150 struck the pedestrian in between the #1 and #2 lane of SR-99 southbound. The impact caused fatal injuries to the pedestrian as a result of the collision. Traffic lanes were shut down for approximately 1 hour, however, traffic was diverted onto the right-hand shoulder.

The collision is still under investigation and it is unknown if the pedestrian was under the influence of drugs/alcohol. Pedestrian information is being withheld pending next of kin notification.
