MERCED 911 CALL TURNS INTO ABDUCTION

On January 20, 2018 at 8:30 A.M., the Merced Police Department Dispatch Center received a 911 call from a cell phone in the area of South G Street and E. Gerard Avenue. Initially there was no response, but the dispatchers could hear an argument in the background. After approximately a one ½ minutes, a female told our dispatchers that her friend was being assaulted by her boyfriend.

When officers arrived at the scene, the witness advised that Emmanuel Gomez (35 years) had broken into her home and had attacked the victim. The witness stated that the suspect had struck the victim several times and forced her and a two-year-old child into a car and fled. Because of nature of the incident, an Amber Alert was issued to assist in locating the child.

Merced County Sheriff’s Deputies located Gomez and the victims parked on a canal bank in the area of Almond Avenue and Vine Avenue near the city of Winton. The child was unharmed and the confidential victim was treated for injuries at the scene.

Gomez has been arrested and booked into the Merced County Jail for Inflect Corporal Injury on Spouse/Cohabitant [PC 273.5], Kidnapping [PC 207(a) & (b)], Assault with a Deadly Weapon [PC 245(a)(1)], and Burglary [PC 459].
