Mariposa Sheriff deputies have arrested a man after a deputy serving an out of state temporary restraining order at a home was ambushed by a suspect with a rifle.

The deputy arrived at a home in the 4000 block of Dawn Road Friday evening and was ambushed by a male suspect with a riffle.

The Deputy was able to return fire, striking the suspect Douglas Popke out of Mariposa at least once the Sheriff’s Office reported.

Authorities say the suspect was able to flee the area but was captured after a search by several law enforcement officers.
