Merced Police arrested a man for assault with a deadly weapon.
Officers responded to the 700 block of San Diego Court on Sunday at approximately 6:45 p.m., for a subject with a firearm.
Officers arrived on scene and met with victims who stated they were being followed by an unknown suspect.
After a short time, the victims pulled over to confront the individual. They stated the suspect, later identified as 30-year-old Manuel Abarca exited his vehicle, went to his trunk and retrieved a hand gun.
Abarca then fired one round in between the two victims. Officers spoke with Abarca, who also called the police department regarding a road rage incident with the victims.
Abarca admitted to following the victims and pulling a gun from his trunk and firing a “warning shot”. Abarca was taken into custody and booked at the Merced County Jail for assault with a deadly weapon.
