Merced Police officer arrested a man after being involved in a pursuit, the suspect is being charged with evading, warrant, attempt carjacking and possession of a stolen vehicle.
On July 24th, 2020, at approximately 11:00 a.m., Officer Avery attempted a vehicle stop on a gray Chevy Astro van in the area of Loughborough and R Street.
Merced Police said, 24-year-old Ervin Segebert, failed to stop and led Officer Avery on a vehicle pursuit from the city of Merced, east on Santa Fe into Winton and ending in Atwater where Segebert left the vehicle and fled on foot.
He was apprehended a short time later in the parking lot of Target after attempting to steal a second car and changing his clothing.
A passenger identified as 22-year-old Olivia McCoy also fled the vehicle in an attempt to evade police. She was apprehended a short time later in the parking lot of Walmart. McCoy was later cited and released for possession of methamphetamine.
Segebert was arrested for evading arrest, attempted carjacking and possession of a stolen vehicle.
