Man accused of intentionally setting an occupied RV on fire

Atwater police arrested a man for attempted murder after setting an RV on fire.

On Friday, May 13th, 2022, Atwater police responded to a report of a fire under the overpass of the Atwater Merced Expressway and Highway 99 in Atwater.

Authorities say, an occupied RV under the underpass was intentionally set on fire. During the investigation, it was determined that the arson was in response to a dispute over property in the camp where the RV was located.

Officers were able to identify  and obtain probable cause to arrest 39-year-old Jeffery Scott Drennon, a resident of Atwater.

He was booked into the Merced County jail on several felony charges, Jeffery is being charged with arson, attempted murder, and cruelty to animals. Atwater police say the investigation is still pending.
