On Monday, February 4, 2019, at approximately 5:00p.m, off-duty officer Phia Vang was involved in a double fatal head-on collision that occurred on McCall Avenue and Freeway 180. Officer Vang was alone in his personal vehicle when another vehicle travelling the wrong way struck Phia head-on. Both Phia and the other solo driver, a male adult in his 30’s were pronounced at the scene.

CHP is investigating this double fatal collision. Phia was escorted to the Fresno County Coroner’s Office by marked Fresno Police units as well as marked CHP units and Fire personnel.

A grieving center and location for department members to meet and console each other will be at the FPOA effective immediately until further notice.

Officer Vang was a well-loved officer who was a 26-year veteran, currently assigned to the Fresno Area Express (FAX) Unit. Please pray for the Vang family as they are going through this difficult time.
