Atwater,CA- On January 12th, 2018 Atwater PD Officer Aguilar was dispatched to the lobby of the police department to investigate a report of a domestic dispute. The female reported that her boyfriend initiated an argument and then walked to his vehicle and retrieved what she described as a black semi-automatic handgun and tucked it into his waistband. She said he then began making statements leading her to believe he may use the handgun against her.

The female said she drove away from the location towards the police station but her boyfriend (identified later as Filiberto Estrada) followed her in his vehicle. Once in the parking lot of the police department, she said Estrada got out of his vehicle and approached her vehicle, reached through the driver window and pushed her and removed the keys from the ignition. She said Estrada then got back into his car and drove away with her keys. Officers drove to the area of the Estrada’s residence where they spotted him exiting his vehicle and walking towards his apartment.

Officers contacted him at his apartment entrance and took him into custody without incident. The handgun was located and actually determined to be a BB gun. Estrada was later booked into the Merced County Jail on charges of Criminal Threats and misdemeanor domestic violence related Battery.
