On May 15th, 2019, at approximately 11:00 a.m., the Merced City Fire Department along with Merced Police Department responded to McDonald’s located at 206 West Olive Avenue for a hazmat call.
Upon arrival, everyone was evacuated from the building. Witnesses stated there were several people panicking because there was something in the air inside the business.
During the investigation, it was determined that pepper spray was sprayed outside the side exit door and blew inside the building according to Merced Fire Battalion Chief Jeremy Franklin.
Everyone was allowed back inside the business after it was determined safe.
